Living in Unity

If you’re hitting midlife like me, and you can’t hear, see, or run as well as you used to and thankful that high wasted jeans came back in style, then maybe you’ll remember a fun game I played as a child called “Red Rover?”
The idea of the game is to link arms with your team so the opposing team who sends a person to run towards you cannot get through. I always ran to the people I knew had the weakest link, but if they held their arms together tight enough, I catapulted back like a rock in a sling and couldn’t get through.
There’s a life lesson here, isn’t there? The more unified we are, the stronger we are in facing opposition, struggle, and even heartache.
There are so many things working to divide us. We see it and feel it every day. I’m so glad Jesus invites us into a better way of life together. All throughout the Bible we see the theme of togetherness, linking arms for the sake of others and God’s Kingdom mission. The Bible often speaks of serving and supporting others to live together with God and each other in unity. At Chillicothe Christian, we’re big on getting back to New Testament living. When I read the beginnings of the church in the book of Acts I see people who were linked together, giving of themselves and their resources for the sake of Jesus and others (Acts 2:42-47). That’s the type of living we could use today, some Red Rover type of living.
“Finally, brothers and sisters, rejoice! Strive for full restoration, encourage one another, be of one mind, live in peace. And the God of love and peace will be with you.” 2 Corinthians 13:11
