The Chillicothe 4th of July Fireworks

Jul 01, 2022 05:33PM ● By Dave Molleck
It truly takes a village to put on the Chillicothe 4th of July Fireworks Celebration, and some of these hardworking people have been helping for as long as 20 years.  More volunteers are needed to help with this wonderful community event.  So, if you have the ability and time to help, it sure would be appreciated.

This year’s event will again be held at Three Sister’s Park on Route 29 in Chillicothe and the gates will open at 4pm and they’ll close at 8:30pm. The fireworks will start at approximately 9pm. Concessions will be available along with DJ music. There will be a bouncy house for the kids that is being provided by Chillicothe Christian Church, Gift of Hope will have a small talk, and the VFW Honor Guard will present the National Anthem. Rain Date is July 5th.

Some of you might remember that the fireworks used to be on the river, but due in part to the extra labor needed, it was moved to Three Sister’s Park.  The park allows more people to view the show and there’s no worry of flooding.

The cost of the firework displays this year will be $28,000 and each year that price goes up. The committee raises money with three Golfcart/ATV Pub Crawls in early spring, summer, and fall—the next one will be September 24 ($10 per person to participate).

There will be donation buckets at the 4th of July event. Please have a kind heart and donate “Chillicothe Style” to help pay for this spectacular event. You can also send donations to: Chillicothe 4th of July, P.O. Box 487, Chillicothe, IL 61523. And make sure you thank the current committee members for their hard work who  make sure Chillicothe celebrates the 4th with fireworks each year.
