The Chillicothe Voice

It’s Not Just a Carnival It’s CHILLICOTHE DAYS!

Jul 01, 2022 06:09PM ● By Dave Molleck
For years, I’ve heard about the “Claud-Elen Days” that later became “Chillicothe Days.” I’d see the carnival rides coming into town as the trucks rolled up Route 29. For many years, my kids went for the fun but since my wife and I don’t ride carnival rides, we’ve always stayed away from the event. But, it wasn’t until this year that we realized how impactful this event is for the community. The area residents and non-profit organizations all come together in “Chillicothe style” to raise money for the community while having fun. Yes, it’s more than just a carnival for kids—but we’re glad the kids have fun—it’s lots of entertainment, food, and fun for all to share regardless of age.

During this event, five local businessmen gave generously of themselves for the benefit of the community as they vied for the Mr. Chillicothe title. Humility aside, these men helped to raise a record breaking amount of $12,700 for the Lion’s Club. Also, three beautiful young ladies did their part and competed for the Miss Chillicothe title as they won our hearts. We also ended up with a new Little Mr. Muscle and Little Miss Swimsuit.

The Fred Meister Chillicothe Community Firefighter’s Association which was established in 2017 raised money with a delicious fish fry. Since this group started, it has raised nearly $20,000 for the benevolent with its events thanks to the generosity of our community.

The American Legion raised money selling pork chop sandwiches and the Chillicothe Chamber of Commerce grossed $12,500 for their efforts in sponsoring the carnival. There was much to see and do for all ages.

Other events that were coordinated for our entertainment was the Talent Show, Cami’s Dance Studio presentation, the Pearce Line Dancers, and free band entertainment. The fun wasn’t limited to the stage because there was a “Chicken Poop Bingo” put on by the Blue Ridge Farm.

Yes, there was a lot of fun at “Chillicothe Days” but it’s more about the community than it is about the event. During these questionable times, this generous community came together and raised much needed money for the non-profit organizations. This community of people seems to lend a helping hand or raise money to help anybody in need. Chillicothe is not just a small river town, it’s a small river community full of people supporting each other “Chillicothe Style.”

For all of those that worked so hard to make this event happen and to all of you who spent your money having fun, I just have to say THANK YOU for being part of  “Chillicothe Days.” My wife and I enjoyed this year’s event and are proud to be a part of this generous community.
