What's Happening in Chillicothe...August 2022

We continue to ask our residents to conserve water as the water restriction continues. Our wells are not yet up to full power. Please continue to reduce the use of water to “only as needed for domestic purposes and DO NOT use water for exterior watering like irrigation systems, sprinklers, soakers, etc. Handheld watering is permitted.” Be sure to check the city website at www.cityofchillicotheil.org for the announcement to lift the restriction. This is a city priority and every attempt is being made to correct this issue as quickly as possible.
The City of Chillicothe’s Voucher Program began July 26th. For city residents, the Voucher Program allows a single pick-up truck load of items or six-cubic yards of material to be taken to GFL. NO ITEMS with electrical cords, hazardous waste (oils, paints, etc), electronics, tires or yard waste will be accepted. The program will run from August 1st – September 30th. The only available Saturday will be on Labor Day. The City will issue up to 200 vouchers. Only one voucher per household and must present ID when requesting a voucher. Stop by City Hall from 7am–3:30pm Monday through Friday to pick up a voucher.
For Chillicothe residents, how are your sidewalks holding up? Do you need sidewalks? For the past several years the City has approved the Sidewalk Program. This is on a first come, first serve basis. If you are a city resident and your sidewalk is in need of replacement, the City shares in the cost of installing replacement sidewalks, curbs, and the sidewalk portion of a driveway. The program also shares in the cost of installing new sidewalks. The sidewalk application can be found on the city website under the link Residents/Residential Sidewalk Program. Click on the link to get more information about the program and the necessary application.
Do you love to kayak or canoe? For 21 years the Chamber of Commerce has worked with the local municipalities to hold the Henry Lacon Chillicothe (HLC) Canoe/Kayak Jaunt. On August 14th, the trip begins at Henry Harbor at about 7:30 in the morning. You can drop off your river craft in Henry then park your car at Shore Acres and take a bus to Henry. From Henry, you will have a light snack and head downstream to Lacon where participants take a break and enjoy lunch. The finish for the 16.4 mile trip is at Shore Acres Park where dinner is served. Sign up and take the challenge! Hopefully, the wind won’t be out of the south!
Check out what is playing and catch a movie at the Optimist Chillicothe Town Theatre. The beloved Town Theatre needs your support to stay open. Consider purchasing a subscription. For $10 a month you can enjoy unlimited movies all month long. For $20 dollars you can enjoy the same benefits of the $10 card PLUS a large popcorn each time you visit. What a deal! The theatre is open Friday, Saturdays, and Sundays.
