AMVET of the Year Award

Chillicothe AMVETS Jeff Anderson recently was awarded the prestigious AMVET of the Year award. A Lifetime Member and the Commander of AMVETS Post 77, Anderson exemplifies our mission of Veterans Serving Veterans.
“We are proud of having a great leader,” wrote Post 77 Chaplain Andrew Gusman. “He has inspired us in our thinking, and [he] guides us to work together” for their post, district, department, community, and country.
Post 77 only has around 45 members, but their impact on the local community is great. One of the main ways Post 77 supports veterans is by caring for local heroes that reside in the nursing homes and assisted living centers. The post provides blankets, embroidered hats, and gives money for their accounts to support these men and women.
Post 77 fosters a supportive community for veterans and non-veterans alike. They are known for their bi-monthly breakfasts in the fall. Along with the AMVETS post members, around eight community volunteers step up and help with this regular event. The funds raised from these breakfasts go towards supporting the programs and projects Post 77 conducts, like helping lift the spirits of those veterans in the nursing home.
Anderson is instrumental in coordinating the breakfasts, making sure the food gets ordered, and all the supplies are available. When you ask him about the work, the first thing he says is that he wants to make sure the volunteers get the recognition they deserve to pull off a successful meal.
“I have a great group of guys that help me with just about any endeavor,” he said. “It’s a lot of work, but it’s worth it.”
Congratulations to Jeff Anderson for his accomplishments!
