Rounding-Up and Making a Difference

Sep 01, 2022 01:58PM ● By Dave Molleck
Something that I’ve noticed over the past year is the request to “Round-Up” when paying at a register. Many times, this is for a charity or event. For example, if your purchase is $3.80, if you’re in agreement, you’d pay $4.00. The extra 20 cents is then dropped into a container.
Little Land of Candy N’ More, in Chillicothe, has generously taken this idea on to help four different charities. On the 4th of the month, all extra monies that are collected go to the fireworks fund for the 4th of July. The 25th of the month, all the extra monies collected go toward the “Cops for Kids” program. On the 28th of the month, all extra monies go towards the “Community Needs” program and on the last day of the month all the extra monies go toward “Spider Hill” (held at Three Sisters Park). To help further, Joe Harper (the owner) also matches the funds to double the amount collected for each of these funds. This is a generous offer from a small business.
This is yet another example of the community coming together to help each other. The next time your sweet tooth is calling, go to Little Land of Candy N’ More and your guilt might melt away knowing you’re helping the community with a small tip.
