What’s Happening in Chillicothe...

Dec 28, 2022 01:44PM ● By the City of Chillicothe

With the end of 2022, we’d like to thank all residents, businesses, and organizations who took part in the events and happenings throughout the year that help make Chillicothe a great place to live, work, and play. As the holiday festivities are past us, it is time to look forward to the upcoming new year. The City is hard at work planning budgets and preparing for the new fiscal year May 1st.

The City Council meetings are held the 2nd and 4th Monday of each month at 7pm with the exception of the December meeting in which only one is held. Public is welcome to attend.

At the December 12th City Council meeting the Council:

  • Listened to attendees during the public comment section of Monday night’s City Council meeting, regarding their opinions on the Solar Ordinance
  • The Council voted to withdraw the Solar Ordinance item from the agenda
  • Council went on to approve a Priority One Road & Bridge Project for Drainage Improvements to be brought forward so that storm drainage from 3rd Street to 1st Street on Pine could be evaluated.
  • Council also authorized an $11,878.65 payout to George Rump for continued work on the Cutright Park Restroom Project
  • City Council passed the swimming pool ordinance to reduce requirement to build 15 feet from the easement to 5 feet from the easement; and
  • Authorized the City Attorney to submit a formal complaint letter to Peoria County Planning and Zoning Department, Peoria County State’s Attorney & the Peoria County Environmental Health Division in regards to the 80 acre FLM mineral extraction and mining requesting action to be taken by Peoria County to investigate, address, and abate the detrimental environmental impacts created by the mineral extraction and mining operations on the property

The Circle of Service continues to run the Terri Lynn Nuts fundraiser. Nuts are available at the Cutting Edge, Hair Masters, Shear Grace, Happy Thought Coffee, and Plaza Cleaning. January 14th at 8pm will be Charity Karaoke for Freedom Paws at Heather’s Wine Nook. Pearce Community Center offers a great special for the month of January with no initiation fee. Now is the time to join. Another fundraiser called Ghost-Out to Eat will be held at Molly’s on January 19th and will benefit IVCHS Band Boosters.

The City of Chillicothe wishes you a very Happy New Year!
