The Chillicothe Voice

Optimistically Speaking

Just think; Spring is right around the corner. We all feel better as the days begin to lengthen and the temperature starts to rise. Spring is a magical time when mother earth renews its bounty. Grass begins to green up, buds start to form on the trees, and the flowers start to push up through the earth. Everything is awakening from winter’s slumber.

The Optimist’s Club committee continues to meet and plan for “The Home Run Festival” that will take place in the city park on June 3rd. This year in conjunction with the Brad Wallin Tournament, the Railroad passenger train will be back that day to take people for rides to Henry and back. If you haven’t taken this fun ride, it’s a great experience for you, your kids, and grandkids. Our Historical Society will have the railroad station open that day to tour.

Also in the park that day will be a craft show, plant sale, raffle, auction, bake sale, and more! Plus our Chillicothe Police, Fire, and AMT will be present with their vehicles to show off. Police will be doing fingerprinting and giving out goodies to the kids. There will be entertainment on the stage and food will be available, so bring your lawn chairs and join us for the day. There is something for everyone!

The “Safe At Home” movie will be playing all weekend at the Town Theater on Second Street. There will be kids activities taking place on the street while they wait for the movie to begin. New this year is a Semi Truck Show. These beautifully polished show trucks will be parked all up and down the streets. I’m sure everyone will love this addition to the festival. All money raised from the festival after expenses will go directly to St. Jude.

Our next event, after the Festival, is one of our annual fundraisers—Flag Day. On June 16 & 17 the Optimists will be out in full force selling flags at intersections and businesses. Stop by and give a donation and get a flag to take home.

Start saving your items for The Optimist’s Annual Garage Sale held at the Casting Club each summer. This great event will be coming up the last weekend in  June. We always have thousands of items, from furniture, appliances, clothes, tools, crafts, and everything in between. There are NO prices, it’s all donation!

Until next month....stay OPTIMISTIC!
