Random Acts of Kindness

Tonight as we were leaving football practice with my three kids, my 4 year old was tired and began to cry. Then my 7 year old upon hearing what we were having for dinner began to cry, because she didn’t like it. So, I said forget it we would just go through the drive thru. By then all the kids were crying for one reason or another. I ordered and when I approached the window, I looked around and remembered I had not taken my purse to football practice. I looked at the young cashier with tears in my eyes from being stressed and annoyed and told him, “Hun, I’m sorry. I’ve left my purse at home and you’ll have to cancel that order. Without hesitation, the young man took out his wallet, and swiped his card to pay for my order before I could say no. I told him, “I will come right back and pay you.” “No, it’s totally fine, my pleasure ma’am.” I told him he was an amazing human being, and would be back to repay him. To which he said, “no need.” I did come back and had to make him take the money. I wanted him to know that when you put good out in the world it comes back to you tenfold and told him,” It’s people like you that will change this world for the better!

After my meeting one morning I saw a local service group selling nuts and candy for a fundraiser in the lobby. I eyed the heart shaped container to buy, but realized I didn’t have cash on me, only a debit card. “Sorry we don’t take cards, the woman told me.” “Oh, okay I said, putting the container back on the table. The man in front of me in line looked around and said to me, “Pick out anything here and I will pay for it.” I said, “No, I couldn’t, I don’t even know you.” In which he replied, “Hello, I’m Jay, now pick out anything and he hands me a ten dollar bill. “No, I can’t take your money,” I protested. “Yes you can,” he said and walked off. “Have a good day and God bless you,” he said before disappearing out the door. I smiled knowing God did bless Jay that day for his kindness to a stranger.

A teenager was filling his car with gas when an elderly gentleman walked up with a gas can. He stood waiting while the young man filled his car. The teen noticed the old man waiting and pulled the nozzle out and said, “Sir, will you please let me see your can?” He then took and filled up the can, while the man objected. When the teen finished, he put the nozzle back in his car and finished filling it up. He refused to take money from the elderly gentleman and wished him a wonderful day. Teach your children kindness, it all starts at home with the parents. If kids see their parents showing kindness to others, they will too.
