Letter From the Editor – April 2023

Mar 29, 2023 10:49AM ● By Ginny Molleck

Did you know that April is considered National Volunteer Month? It’s a time for us to recognize the impact that volunteers have on our lives and community. Many people generously donate their time and efforts to do work that we may not realize needs to be done. For example…Did you know that for Chillicothe’s Annual Easter Egg Hunt held in City Park by the Optimist Club & Chillicothe Merchants that 8,000 plastic eggs are filled with candy and other surprises for our kids to find the day before Easter? You read that right—8,000 eggs! So many of us attend community events that are organized for our enjoyment, but few of us realize how much work is donated to make them a success.

So, for the month of April—and for the rest of the year—let’s all consider how we might be able to volunteer in some capacity to help out. Sometimes, it’s as easy as offering to help clean up after an event. We are all busy, but even just a few hours each month can make a big impact.

I have started a new column this month that you will see on page 15 that lists the different volunteer opportunities in our area. I hope this column will serve both the organizations in need of volunteers and will also allow you to learn of the different ways to serve. If you are in need of volunteers, please email me the details and it will be published next month.
