Are You Bumping Into Walls?

Mar 29, 2023 11:04AM ● By Andrea Mercier, Chillicothe Christian Church

My Facebook memory this morning reminded me that a few years ago I was walking in the dark as a sleep-deprived mama trying to get to my infant son’s room to ease his midnight cries. Well, because my eyes hadn’t fully adjusted to the dark yet, I ended up walking right into a wall.

Do you ever feel like that in life, too? You’re walking around bumping into walls so uncertain of where to go to find purpose, joy, peace, and a love that causes you to truly love yourself and others more?

This month, Christians around the globe are celebrating Easter—the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. God’s act of bringing light into our darkness. Hope into our despair. Joy into our sadness. Peace into our chaos. A love that changes us, heals us, and causes us to love God, ourselves, and others more.

Jesus says in John 8:12b, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

When Jesus says He is the “light of life” a further study of the word “life” means He is our life for both now in the physical, and to come in the spiritual. True purpose, hope, joy, love, and peace can be found now and to come through belief in Jesus Christ. This is the hope and beauty of the gospel message. Jesus has come as a rescue to save us from our sin and darkness to restore us to a right relationship with God so that by believing in Him we would have life now and life eternal. Saved for eternity, pardoned by His blood, rescued from Hell. No more walking in darkness, but light.

“If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” Romans 10:9
