What’s Happening in Chillicothe... May 2023

Apr 25, 2023 03:38PM ● By the City of Chillicothe

May is a busy month of the year with many preparing for District 321 graduations. The Chillicothe Fire Protection District will hold its 100th year celebration with a Parade and Open House. This memorable event is sure to capture the attention of all ages.

May marks the new fiscal year at City Hall and new appointments will be made at the first City Council meeting. City Council meetings are held the 2nd and the 4th Monday of each month at 7pm. The public is welcome to attend.

At the April 11th City Council meeting, the Council approved:

  • A request to accept the resignation of Megan Geiger from the Shademakers Committee
  • A request to appoint Laurie Miller to the Shademakers Committee
  • Approved the Ordinance Terminating the Fiduciary Agreement with MEG
  • Approved a Special Event Request from the Chamber of Commerce for Chillicothe Days & Carnival on June 14th–17th
  • Approved a Special Event Request from the VFW for their Annual Cruise in Car Show and fundraiser on June 24th from 9–7pm
  • Approved to Refer to the Attorney to Draft an Ordinance to Prohibit Ground Mount Solar Residential Zoning Districts

Since burn dates within city limits only happen from April 1 – May 31 and October 1 – December 15, Chillicothe residents may wonder what can be done with their landscape waste between June through September. The City of Chillicothe has a drop off site located in the 200 block of Moffitt Street. During the month of June, the open hours are Mondays:  4 – 6pm (Closed Memorial Day), Wednesdays: 10am–NOON and 4pm – 6pm and Saturdays: 8am – 1pm. Full schedule may be found on the city’s website.

Rounding out the month of May is the annual Summer Camp Music Festival at Three Sisters Park, running May 26–28. An estimated 20,000 attend this concert throughout the Memorial Day weekend. Plans begin early to prepare Three Sisters Park for the festival. We close out the month of May with the Memorial Day Ceremony at the Veteran’s Memorial triangle on Santa Fe Avenue. This takes place at 11am on Monday, May 29th.
