What’s Happening in Chillicothe... June, 2023

Historic Downtown is hopping with events! The SOLD OUT event, Ride the Rails Passenger Train, takes place on June 3rd. Over 1,700 people have signed up for the train ride to Henry and back. The Brad Wallin movie will be showing at the Optimist Club Town Theatre and many teams come to watch the inspiring story. The Optimist Club Home Run Festival will be going on in City Park with vendors and activities in the street including a semi-truck cruise-in.


At the May 22 City Council meeting the Council approved:

  • MFT Resolution for Spray Patching streets and highways, 15k from MFT funds
  • Sidewalk Program Application for 1429 Finney for $1,000
  • Acceptance of River Sound Phase 6 subdivision development
  • Authorized Mayor to sign a 26-month Electrical Procurement contract for the Street Lights to the lowest bidder
  • An agreement between the City and TWM Engineer Agreement for Bike Path
  • Facade Application for 949 N Second Street
  • Demolition Proposal from Schaefer & Son Construction for 214 Walnut Street & 422 Fourth Street
  • 2023 HELP Loan Application Updates
  • An expenditure of $13,235 to purchase and Install Air Conditioner for the Police Station
  • Special Event Request from the business By the Grace of Bows for June 3 from 10am-2pm for a summer pop-up with Kamaela’s Kreamery
  • An expenditure of $1,320 payable to Picket Fence for the planting of the 12 downtown planters 
  • An expenditure of $3,449.26 payable to Belson Outdoors for the purchase of concrete drinking and Pet Friendly Water Fountain


Announcement:

  • Presented the Appropriation Ordinance for First Reading and announce Public Hearing June 26 at 6:30pm


Referred City Attorney to:

  • Amend the ordinance to increase the Building Permit Fees
  • Draft Ordinance to Rezone 615 Truitt from R1 to C3


City Council meetings are held the 2nd and the 4th Monday of each month at 7pm. The Public is welcome to attend.

The Chillicothe Days Carnival gets better each year. This year there will be events such as a bed race and a wife-carrying contest, a Diaper Derby, and a Pie in the Face event. The Miss Chillicothe scholarship has been increased to $1,000 and the crowd favorite, Mr. Chillicothe contest will return. A tree stump carving by Tim Gill will be auctioned.
