What’s Happening in Chillicothe... August 2023

As we step into the sunny month of August, we’re excited to share the happenings, initiatives, and events that will shape our city’s future. As it is the month school resumes, we look forward to sharing the goings on in the city and the community. Let’s dive in!

At the July 10th City Council meeting the Council:

  • Approved two Council persons and two staff to attend Illinois Municipal League Annual Conference in September.
  • Approved an Expenditure of $6,725.75 to E.A. Lawson for the purchase of booster pumps, parts and labor payable from the ARPA funds.
  • Approved a Notice for a Special Event, “Bluegrass Bash” by Amy Holocker from Moon Tower on July 22 from 11am to 11pm.
  • Approved a Live Entertainment Request for live entertainment in the beer garden from American Legion on July 30, from 2pm to 6pm for a Sunday Funday event.
  • Referred an Ordinance Prohibiting Ground Mounted Solar Other Zoning Districts to the Plan Commission to hold a Public Hearing.
  • Held Sexual Harassment Prevention Training and Security Awareness Training.

City Council motion failed:

  • Ordinance for Rezoning 615 W. Truitt from an R1 to C3

City Council Meetings are  held on the 2nd and 4th Monday of each month at 7pm. The Public is welcome to attend.

The City’s Voucher Program opened July 17th for the residents of the City of Chillicothe and runs from August 1st thru September 9, 2023. The Voucher Program allows a citizen to drop off items not normally picked up by garbage. A  maximum of 165 vouchers will be given out. Only Chillicothe citizens within corporate boundaries may obtain a voucher and must show a valid ID. Only one voucher per residence. The voucher must have the official signature and seal to be valid. See www.cityofchillicotheil.org for complete details as some items are not allowed.

Roadwork! The Illinois Department of Transportation continues to work on Route 29 from Truitt to Cloverdale. This includes replacing the stoplights. Sycamore Trail is getting an overlay. You may notice the new stop signs at Cloverdale and Second Street. They include stop-ahead warning signs.

The City of Chillicothe purchased the properties on 4th and Walnut and are in the midst of demolition. The finished area will be leveled and seeded. 

Have you noticed there has been an abundance of LIVE MUSIC in Chillicothe? There are so many monthly events taking place. In addition to the below events also check out the events at the Chillicothe Park District, the Chillicothe Public Library, AND the Chillicothe Town Theatre.
