Letter From the Editor - September 2023

As you read through this issue, you will see there is a common thread among many of the articles—the generous voluntary giving of time and/or money from our community and how it comes full circle when those organizations give back to those in need. Organizations such as the Rotary, Optimists, Lions, and Circle of Service all give back to our educators and students right here in Chillicothe in one way or another to help with back-to-school needs.
You will also read how St. Jude received another outstanding amount of money from the efforts of Chillicothe St. Jude Runs and the Brad Wallin Tournament. But, sometimes, patients of St. Jude need more than money. We have a local family whose little boy, Oskar, is in need of a blood stem cell transplant to survive. A simple cheek swab can discern if you are a match that could save his life. There’s an event planned for September 12th from 4–8pm at Castaways in Chillicothe and at this event, the “Be the Match Foundation” and their volunteers will be there to help you sign up for the registry and your swab will be entered into the database. You could be the match for Oskar. Even if you don’t qualify for a cheek swab, be sure to stop in for a bite to eat. 15% of proceeds for the entire day will be donated.
Chillicothe is a very giving community and there are many ways to donate. Step up and volunteer. It’s a very rewarding experience.
