The Blue Ridge Church, Now & Hereafter

Aug 31, 2023 09:34AM ● By Mary Meyer & Carolyn Blair

A large number of people living in Hallock, Chillicothe, and Medina Townships are well aware of the existence of Blue Ridge Church located about a mile north of the Village of North Hampton. As churches go, Blue Ridge Church has been a base for spiritual expression and solace for hundreds if not thousands of people for a long time. The first sermon was given in 1841.

Times are changing and Blue Ridge Church members have been subject to the stresses these changes are forcing into the very essence of the values the Church holds dear. For a number of years, Blue Ridge has been a member of the Illinois Great River Conference (IGRC). The Conference has chosen to change its stance to one that deviates from the tenets long held by Blue Ridge members. Harmony has not been achieved during these discussions. In April this year, members of the Blue Ridge Church opted to separate itself from the IGRC and to become a non-denominational church open to all who ascribe to the basic tents it has held since its beginning.

Contrary to rumors, the Blue Ridge Church has not closed, and it continues to invite anyone who seeks a spiritual anchor. Services are held at 8am on Sundays in September. Sunday hours of worship will change to 9am in October. See Blue Ridge Church on Facebook, and for upcoming events and services check our Events page on Facebook.

They will be having a special speaker for their 9am service on September 17 (no service at 8am). And they will be holding an Open House service at 9am on October 1st with refreshments after the service. They hope you will join them. They are located at 22426 N Blue Ridge Rd., Edelstein.
