The Chillicothe Voice

New Shop Opens in Historic Downtown Chillicothe

Teresa Rusk opened The Tin Top business at 923 N 2nd Street on Thursday, July 20, 2023. Although you can’t see it, her business name “Tin Top” comes from the tin roof on the building. A beautiful decorative tin molding is above the outside door to symbolize the name. The building is a renovated historic building and formerly housed a printing business.

Teresa’s goal is to make her business a little different, so she looks for items that are not only unique but beautiful.  Shoppers can find vintage as well as new items in her shop. Her store houses local artists and other treasures she has uncovered along her journey. “The desire to house local artisans began with the work my son and our family were able to accomplish in the building. From there it just seemed fitting to create a place where local artisans could display their work,” says Teresa.

Artisans include a wood carver with carved figures, wall hangings, and walking sticks; a basket weaver; an artist who makes leaded glass window sun catchers, panels, succulents, spinners , and garden stakes; a mosaic glass artist; and a quilter who has displays of all sizes and everything from traditional to fun materials in adult and kid-sized quilted lap blankets. Each of these artists creates one-of-a-kind pieces.

“I chose this business because I can be surrounded by the things I love,” says Teresa, “and I chose Chillicothe because Chillicothe is my home and my children are here.”

er vision for Historic Downtown Chillicothe is to help create a successful business district as in the past. Memories of walking around Ben Franklin,  Jane’s, and This and That shop still linger within our community. “I want our Historic Downtown to be a place the members of our community can be proud of,” says Teresa. Chillicothe is a hidden treasure and she would like to see Chillicothe become a destination for shoppers and tourists alike.

Tin Top is open Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 10am to 5pm. Stop in and see the newly renovated building and the many unique items this shop has to offer.
