The Man Behind Chillicothe Appliance

Aug 31, 2023 10:15AM ● By Dave Molleck

It didn’t take long for me to notice Tim White. He’s involved in nearly every event in Chillicothe and puts his heart and soul into each one of them. Not shy, and a little short on hair, this guy is an asset to Chillicothe and the residents. He’s not only a business owner in town, but he also lives and grew up here as well. Many people know the “White” name due to his father being a local doctor for over 50 years.

Under ideal conditions, starting a business isn’t easy. There are countless investments in both time and money with nonexistent rewards for years to come. Yet Tim took that plunge during the pandemic in June of 2020 when he started the Chillicothe Appliance store on 2nd Street in downtown Chillicothe. Tim’s also active in the community as:

  • Lion’s Club board member
  • The Optimist Club board member
  • Runner up at Mr. Chillicothe
  • Mr. Congeniality
  • Fireworks committee member
  • Chillicothe City Alderman

This proud father of three has raised money for events and has done his part to make Chillicothe a better place to call home. He’s proud of his business, his 2.5 grandchildren and the American Flag, which he’ll always stand for.

In the early 90s, Tim worked at Caterpillar for about 17 years, starting at the Mapleton foundry, and while there, on weekends, Tim went to school and earned an engineering degree. This allowed him to work into a management position at Caterpillar. Throughout this time, Tim also was a handyman doing work for others and this included helping customers with appliances. After some urging from others, in 2020 Tim launched the Chillicothe Appliance store. He now repairs appliances and buys and sells used equipment. He said that he averages about six service calls a day and works five days a week.

If you start having issues with one of your appliances, Tim is the guy to call. He works with nine different warranty companies so hopefully one of these will have you covered. His store has multiple used appliances, all checked out and ready for purchase, at reasonable prices. I think Tim has positioned himself pretty good in today’s market. The cost of new appliances has skyrocketed and it’s no secret that appliances from previous years seem to last longer than the units being built today. Who hasn’t seen the old green appliances from the 60s that mom or grandma had and they’re still running?  You might be better off saving money and buying a reliable used appliance rather than the new big box store appliances that don’t seem to last as long. Maybe I’m nostalgic, but I think the old washing machines did a better job at cleaning clothes than the new ones anyway.

Tim hopes to work five more years and then hopefully one of his kids will have the desire to pick up where he leaves off. In the meantime, his phone keeps ringing and people keep coming to his store looking for bargains or repairs.

Stop in and see if Tim has something that’s easy on your budget.
