Unable to visit the library in person? Chillicothe Public Library’s free Home Delivery Service can bring books and more directly to you! The Home Delivery Service is for patrons who are unable to come to the library due to disability or illness, or because they are caring for a family member. We serve senior communities, nursing homes, community living facilities, and the homebound. 

Patrons can request specific items, or have a librarian choose materials for them, based on their preferences. Then, once a month, library staff will deliver those books, audiobooks, movies, magazines, and more right to their doorstep.

To get started, all you need is a valid Chillicothe Public Library card. (No card? No problem—library staff can help get you sorted out.) Then, call the library at 309-274-2719 to schedule a meeting with their Home Delivery Coordinator, who will walk you through the process of enrollment in home delivery. From there, library staff will work with you to make sure you’re getting the right number and kind of materials each month. Alternatively, you can request items yourself, directly from the library catalog.

In addition to Home Delivery Service, the library offers other options for accessing materials from home. Cardholders can use the library’s numerous digital resources to access thousands of items online, including eBooks (with adjustable font sizes); audiobooks; magazines; movies and TV shows; music; digital courses; crosswords, Sudoku, and other puzzles; and news and research databases. 

Also, the Talking Book and Braille Service provides audio and braille library service via mail or digital download to any Illinois resident who is unable to read standard print material due to a permanent or temporary visual or physical disability. They will deliver recorded books, materials in Braille, and descriptive videos for those with visual, physical, or reading disabilities.
