It’s that time of year again for “New Year’s Resolutions.” In past years—and this year, too—my main resolution always involves making healthier choices. But this requires major commitment and long-term change. Each year I make more progress in that direction but I get impatient with my results when they aren’t instantaneous. In the big picture of things, I am healthier today than I was 10 years ago so I will keep going with my yearly resolution. But in addition to that major goal, this year I plan to make several smaller ones that I can complete and can measure my success.

The word “resolution” actually means “to make a firm decision TO DO or NOT TO DO something” which can apply to anything. I plan to make some resolutions of things “TO DO” and then I’ll make a few of the “NOT TO DO” things. And I’m not going to put a time frame on them other than they have to be done in 2024. My first “TO DO” is to get my sewing room organized so that I can easily retreat to my room for some creative time. And then on my ”NOT TO DO” list is to quit watching so much TV and enjoy more sewing. As I’m writing this, I’m thinking of a lot of quick resolutions that don’t require a lot of change or work, but could provide some extra JOY in my life or another’s—like writing a letter or email or making a phone call. 

So, with this in mind, I would like to encourage you to make a resolution that involves letting the Hometown Voice know about something or someone special you would like to see highlighted in a future issue. Maybe you have been thinking about contacting us, but haven’t taken the time. Remember, this newspaper is the VOICE of our community and we would love to hear your ideas. What an easy resolution—just a simple email, letter, or phone call—to let us know of a story the community would love to read. We will take it from there.
