Letter From the Editor - February 2024

Jan 29, 2024 02:22PM ● By Ginny Molleck

It’s almost Groundhog Day. What will Punxsutawney Phil predict for the next 6 weeks? We will hope for a gloomy day in Punxsutawney, PA on February 2nd so that we will have an early Spring. However, according to records kept by the Punxsutawney Ground Hog Club, Phil has only a 39% accuracy rate since his first prediction in 1887. I guess Phil isn’t much of a meteorologist after all. So, even if Phil sees his shadow, we can still hope for an early Spring.

Having lived in this area my entire life, no matter how long our winter is, we always hope for an early spring. But I do like the seasons that the Midwest offers. I have often said that I endure the winter so that I can enjoy Spring, Summer, and Fall. I really can’t imagine what it would be like to live in an area that doesn’t offer the beautiful changes that Midwest seasons offer us. Even the winter has its attributes—it’s just that we only want them for a short time.

So, while we may feel a little cabin fever when it’s too cold to venture out, we can take this time to think about how we can get more involved with our non-profit organizations by offering some volunteer help. Chillicothe has a strong reputation for being a very charitable community and it’s not just by donating money. A large number of our residents donate their time and efforts but there’s always room for more people and ideas. Please consider joining in and helping where you can. Our local non-profits such as the Optimists Club, Lions Club, Circle of Service, Rotary, the Chillicothe Chamber of Commerce, and many others give the community so much. Let’s think about how we can assist them to continue our legacy of being a charitable community.
