Over Memorial Day weekend the Summer Camp Music Festival attracts an average of 23,000 people to Three Sisters Park in Chillicothe, Illinois. While this event is well attended by people from all over the world, the Soul Shine/Soul Patch summer initiative had plans to make a larger impact on the local community.

In 2016, the Community Contribution Fund was created as an extension of the Soul Shine/Soul Patch Summer Camp initiative to promote sustainability, Native American Heritage History, composting, being good stewards of resources, and being good neighbors by getting involved with the organizations serving the community. A portion of each ticket sold during the music festival is reserved for the Community Foundation Fund. To date over $269,500 has been donated back into the Chillicothe Community.

On January 30, 2024 Darbi Dietrich of the Community Foundation Board and Taylor Maxwell of Jay Golberg Events and Entertainment distributed 25 awards totaling $20,500 to local area nonprofits. During the awards night at Odie’s on 2nd Street, Darbi stated, “Chillicothe is a small town with a big heart and each group here tonight is a part of that. We appreciate the Summer Camp Music Festival and the Goldberg organization’s support of each of these groups impacting our community.”

Local area organizations receiving funding were AMVETS Post 77, Blue Ridge Community Farm, Cami’s Dance Studio, Chilli Dawgs Wrestling Club, Chillicothe 4th of July, Chillicothe Circle of Service, Chillicothe Optimist Club, Community Needs Agency, CrossWord Cafe, Epilepsy Advocacy network, Freedom Paws Service Dogs Foundation, Ghost Travel Basketball, IVC Band Boosters, IVC High School Project Graduation, Marty Gollneitz VFW Post 4999, Mossville PTA, Mossville Snack Pack Program, Pearce Community & Fitness Center, Peoria Casting Club, Inc., Picket Fence Foundation, Rotary Club of Chillicothe, Shademaker’s Beautification Committee, The Princess Closet, and Tri 2 Beat MS.
