Chillicothe Circle of Service

Accepting/presenting the $520 check for summer programs are (L-R) Pearce Executive Director Carie McIntyre, Circle of Service Literacy Committee members Elaine Snyder and Diane Koch, and Pearce Youth Programs Manager Alicia Vonk.

Officers for 2024 - 2026 were installed at Chillicothe Circle of Service’s May meeting. Leading us for the next two years are President Carol Solis; 1st Vice President Elaine Snyder; 2nd Vice President Jane Funk; Recording Secretary Linda Krider; Corresponding Secretary Char Williamson; Treasurer Laurie March; Board Members Diane Koch, Jean McMorrow, and Terri Sibrel; and General Counsel Donna Armstrong. Thanks to these ladies for their willingness to serve.

Circle of Service members annually support Spring Planting, held every April at Three Sisters Park. More than 400 area grade school students participated, experiencing farm life in 1918 at six different sites—harnessing, plowing, planting, husking, shelling, and germination. At lunchtime, students participated in games children played in 1918, and they had the opportunity to make corn husk dolls. Approximately 150 volunteers are needed to put on this event, and Spring Planting coordinators rely on support from Circle members, who are always willing to help.

Supporting Circle’s Mission to provide education and educational opportunities to the community, Pearce Community Center was awarded a $520 grant to elevate and enhance the reading experience offered in several different programs: Before and After School Care, School’s Out Day Camp, Summer Camp and P.O.W.E.R. (Preteens Outdoors With Educational Recreation) for 11 – 13-year-olds. This money will allow Pearce to purchase various resource materials to help students maintain their reading skills over summer break.

IVC graduating seniors Ali Bainter, Nora Clausing, and Audree Sperry were each presented a $1000 scholarship by Scholarship Committee co-chairs Kitty Baxter and Marti Boyle. Profit from the Terri Lynn nut sales held each fall makes these scholarships possible. We thank the community for their support!
