Optimistically Speaking

It’s summer! The splash pad’s water is flowing, Shore Acres Pool is opening, little league games have started, and the Chillicothe Days celebration is near. The dog days of summer are upon us, when we love the weather one day and complain the next. You can never please us humans, it’s either too hot, too cold, too windy, or too rainy! Whatever the weather we need to be thankful for what we have. My mother sang this song to us when we were small and I never forgot it....”If I am weary and cannot sleep, I count my blessings instead of sheep, then I fall asleep counting my blessings.”
The Optimist’s garage sale was a huge blessing! We had a record year thanks to all the people that donated, set up, and worked the sale. All the proceeds this year will be given to the Optimist’s Town Theater. Many thanks to the Casting Club for the use of their facility and thank you all for supporting us!
Remember the flag sale coming up June 14th and 15th. The Optimists will be out selling the flags in area businesses and on street intersections. The flag sales help fund our three high school scholarships that are given out to seniors that are going on to further their education, whether it be college or trade school, that exemplify the high standards of the Optimist’s Club.
The recipients of this year’s Optimist’s Scholarships are: Academic – Elayna Bergman and Gus Rusk. Trade – Alex Davis.
The teacher’s names that were drawn to receive a $50 gift card to use in their classrooms were; Trisha Deppolder – Calvary, Stephanie Hedden – South, and Ashley Kluge – St. Edwards. Congratulations!
The Optimist Club meets the first and third Saturdays of each month. To find out more information or how to join call Sherry at 309-676-8951.
That’s all for now......Stay optimistic and remember to count your blessings!
