Obituary – Pamela S. Nigus

Pamela, age 56, of Chillicothe, passed away on Monday, May 6, 2024 at her home.

Pamela was born November 30, 1967 to Andrew and Doris Scott in Kansas City, Missouri. She graduated from Topeka High School in 1985 and earned a Bachelor’s degree in social work from Kansas State University in 1989.

Pamela worked for several years as a caseworker for the Department of Family Services in Peoria, IL. Pam was a passionate advocate and counsellor for victims of domestic violence. Pam was a co-founder of Novel Electronic Designs with her husband. She became a dedicated stay-at-home mom when her sons were born, while continuing to co-manage her husband’s business. Durwin and Pam were co-recipients of the 2007 “Friends of Scholastic Bowl Award” by the Illinois High School Scholastic Bowl Coaches Association.

Pam was a gifted counselor. Pam will perhaps be best remembered for her knack for creating holiday gifts and crafts. She was a generous volunteer around the community including  Christmas on 6th Street & the Love-in-Action food pantry. She also frequently assisted with her sons activities and events including Boy Scouts and the IVC Marching Band. Pam will also be remembered for her love of books and gardening.

Pamela was married to Durwin D. Nigus on January 4, 1987 in Topeka, Kansas. He survives. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Linda Rule. Surviving family include sons, Trevor Nigus and Nathan Nigus. She is also survived by her brothers, Tim Ervin of Independence, MO, Dave Scott, Dan Scott, and Mark Scott, all of Topeka, KS; and foster parents William and Betty DeShazer of Topeka, KS.

A memorial visitation was held at Weber-Hurd Funeral Home in Chillicothe, IL on Friday, May 10th. A graveside service was held on May 18th at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Hiawatha, Kansas. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to your local ALS Chapter or a charity of your choice.
