A local entrepreneur named Alex launched an initiative called, "Bread for the Journey." Every morning before the hustle and bustle of the day Alex and his crew meet and make hundreds of sandwiches. They then fan out throughout the city with baskets of freshly made sandwiches.

These are not ordinary meals…tucked inside each carefully wrapped sandwich is a note of encouragement. It is a simple yet profound message to uplift the spirit of those facing hard times living on the streets. They just don't feed the body, but they nourish the soul, reminding all of us that a little kindness can go a long way and change a life. Some of the messages they wrote were: You are Loved. Don't give up, tomorrow will be a better day! God is with you. You are so much stronger than you think. You are important. You are not forgotten.

Winston Churchill once said, "We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give."
