What’s Happening in Chillicothe... September 2024

The City’s Voucher Program continues to run through September 30th, 2024. This program allows citizens to haul one truckload of items not normally picked up by GFL (such as furniture, wood remnants, and mattresses) and take them to their local facility for disposal. If you live within the Chillicothe corporate boundaries, stop by City Hall to obtain an official voucher. Monday – Friday 7am to 3pm. Only one Saturday drop-off on September 7, 2024 from 7am to Noon

The City’s Sidewalk Program is on a first-come, first-serve basis. If you are a city resident and your sidewalk is in need of replacement, the City shares in the cost of installing replacement sidewalks, curbs, and the sidewalk portion of a driveway. The program also shares in the cost of installing new sidewalks. The sidewalk application can be found on the city website under the link Residents/Residential Sidewalk Program. Click on the link to get more information about the program and the necessary application. 

The Chillicothe Police Department has a Community Camera Reimbursement Program. This program allows residents up to a $200 reimbursement for the purchase of brand-new outdoor surveillance cameras. To be eligible for this program you must live in Chillicothe, purchase a minimum of two outdoor surveillance cameras, the cameras must have night vision, and have a minimum of 48 hours retention of video footage. Applications can be picked up at the Chillicothe Police Department. The applications must be approved before purchasing the new cameras to be eligible for the camera reimbursement program. If residents or businesses have privately owned surveillance camera systems and wish to register with the Chillicothe Police Department please check out their website at www.chillicothepd.org

On August 11th, K9 Dark served his last patrol shift. The council accepted his retirement at the August 12th Council meeting. He has served the Chillicothe community since 2014.

At the August 12th City Council meeting the Council approved:

  • Proclamation – Retirement K9 -Dark
  • Expenditure of $3,171 payable to Carl’s Seasons Control to repair the City Hall Air Conditioner
  • PPUATS Funding Agreement for $3,417.47  between Tri-County Regional Planning Agreement and City of Chillicothe
  • Expenditure of $17,650 payable to Sunshine Tree Service for the removal of 10 trees
  • Expenditure of $6,708 payable to Engbrecht Concrete for six locations of Concrete sidewalk Repairs
  • Expenditure of $11,720 payable to Engbrecht Concrete to Repair ADA Sidewalk ramp landings in Riversound Subdivision
  • Priority One Road & Bridge Project for $30,000 Alley Maintenance and Expenditure and approve expenditure not to exceed $8,000 payable to Schaefer & Son and the purchase of $15,000 of CA6 white rock
  • Sidewalk Program Application for St. Edwards Church and School in the amount of $754
  • Live Entertainment Requests at American Legion September 6, 2024, 7pm–10pm; September 8, 2024, 2pm–6pm; September 14, 2024, 7pm–11pm; and September 22, 2024, 3pm–6pm
  • Special Event Request for Cruise In from MoonTower on September 14, 2024, from 11am–midnight
  • Special Event from  Little Shop of Hoarders for Semi-Annual Sale Event on August 31, 2024 from 11am–2pm
  • Special Event Request for Gilmore’s Block Party on August 31, 2024 from 7pm–11pm
  • Agreement Animal Control Services between City of Chillicothe and Peoria County
  • An expenditure of $68,000 payable to Thomas Dodge Chrysler Jeep of Highland, Inc. for the purchase of Two 2023 Dodge Chargers Police Vehicles 
  • An expenditure of $9,670 payable to Ray 0’Herron for the Purchase of Equipment for Police Vehicles and an amount not to exceed $12,000 payable to Blankenship Visual Impact for the installation of equipment
  • An Ordinance regarding the retirement of Police Office K9 Dark
  • An Ordinance Adopting 2021 Building Codes and the 2020 Electrical Codes
  • Waiving Bodywork Establishment Initial Fee for Samantha Allen in the amount of $250
  • An expenditure of $1,000 payable to the Chillicothe Chamber as a Marketing Reimbursement
  • The acceptance of two plaster cast Wall Sculptures as donated by the Historical Society

  • City Attorney to Draft Ordinance to add Stop Sign at Prairie Springs and Keystone Ct.
  • To the Plan Commission the draft Ordinance for Zoning Code Changes
  • To the Plan Commission the draft Ordinance to Plan Commission for EV Charging Stations

City Council Meetings are held on the 2nd and 4th Monday of each month at 7pm at City Hall. The Public is welcome to attend.
