Optimistically Speaking

Fall is upon us and Mother Nature will soon be showing off a beautiful array of colors as the temperatures fall. This time of year for many of us is our favorite time of year; football games, sweatshirts, bonfires, warm snuggly blankets, s’mores, a fire in the fireplace, and hot comfort foods, like chicken and noodles, vegetable soup, and Chili. Speaking of Chili…
The Optimist’s Chili Supper will be on September 12th from 4–7pm at South School. Along with the dinner, we will also be having one of our great bake sales! Meals will consist of a bowl of Chili (with one refill), a hot dog, chips, and a drink, or a kid’s meal with a hot dog, chips, and a drink. This is also the night of the South School Open House, so come to the school and let us do the cooking that night. The public is welcome and there is plenty of seating.
Next up is the Christmas Bonanza where we give thousands of dollars of gift cards to use at Chillicothe businesses to 2–3 lucky winners. This is our biggest fundraiser and monies from this help fund our three scholarships at the high school. Buy a few tickets to support our efforts. Tickets are still $10 and will be available in November. More information to come next month.
Since the teachers are back to school, we have again started giving out checks to them. Every month we draw out three names and give each teacher a check for $50 to use in their classrooms as they see fit. The names drawn for September were: Rebekah Snow – Calvary, Hillary Reginald – South, and Sara Brown – Mossville.
If you would like to join the Optimist’s Club, we would love to have you! Our meetings are at the Casting Club on the first and third Saturdays of the month from 8:30 to 9:30am. For more information call Sherry at 309-678-8951.
Until next month…stay Optimistic…it’s the only way to be!
