Chillicothe Parks Foundation Brings “Play for All” to Chillicothe

On September 1st, the supporters of the Chillicothe Parks Foundation and the Chillicothe Park District’s Board of Trustees celebrated BIG with the completion of the “Play for All” Project at Shore Acres Park! Over the last six months, Shore Acres Park underwent the biggest transformation of its 100-year history with a renovation of Tippett Field, infrastructure upgrades, including new roadways and walking paths, and the installation of a brand-new playground that offers play opportunities for everyone no matter their ability or age.

The vision for the project has been in the works for years, but the awarding of the $600,000 OSLAD grant was the catalyst to move forward with the 2.1 million dollar renovation of the park. Construction began in April and finished last month with the biggest party of the year—The Chillicothe Parks Foundation’s Party in the Park: Grand Opening “Play for All.”

The day began with a VIP Reception for those who were critical to the project funding through contributions to the Chillicothe Parks Foundation. Because of the generosity of so many in our community, the Chillicothe Parks Foundation presented a $50,000 check to the Chillicothe Park District to be used towards the “Play for All” project.

After the VIP Reception and the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony, the party festivities began! The Chillicothe Parks Foundation’s “Party in the Park” entertained over 1,000 visitors who were treated to a full day of activities, including a professional wrestling event from HomeGrown Wrestling, live music from Mixtape Mayhem, food trucks, and fun experiences for the whole family to enjoy.

Since the grand opening, Shore Acres Park has been bustling with activity from visitors of varying ages and physical abilities. The Chillicothe Parks Foundation-led renovations will protect the integrity of the park for future generations and will enable it to continue its long history of being a regional destination and focal point for recreation in our community.
