Where Are They Now? JEFF GOARD
Oct 29, 2024 01:47PM ● By Sherry Killion AdamsJeff Goard is a hometown boy, born and raised in Chillicothe. Many of you may be familiar with Jeff growing up with him. Others may have known him when he was on staff for the Chillicothe Independent for about five years. At the newspaper, he wrote articles, cut lines, sold ads, and took photographs.
As a child, Jeff was influenced by his great aunt Lorraine Edwards who was an accomplished potter, sculptor, and teacher. As an adult, he began honing his pottery skills and found a love for the craft. In 2005 Jeff moved to Galva to begin making pottery at the Prairie Arts Center at Bishop Hill.
Three years ago, Jeff struck out on his own and purchased a building in Bishop Hill, now known as J. Goard Pottery. He has three independent potters and sculptors working with him and two high schoolers learning the craft at his shop where they all turn out beautiful one-of-a-kind pottery pieces.
Jeff is also an Apostolic Christian Minister, graduating from Lincoln Christian University with a degree in urban ministry. He often officiates at events around the area.
On December 13th and 14th at Bishop Hill is "Lucia Nights." From 6–9pm the town is decorated with lights, candles, music, food, and special sales. If you visit Bishop Hill you will find Jeff at his shop turning out special items for all the visitors. He would love you to stop in and say hello.
