Chris and her husband Gary are the owners of Lela’s Resale Shoppe here in Chillicothe and Chris is on the wait list for a heart transplant. She was encouraged by some friends to establish a GoFundMe page to ask for some financial assistance for her family as she waits for a heart. Here is an excerpt from her GoFundMe page:

“As you know I am currently in the hospital waiting for a heart transplant, I have the biggest lump in my throat even saying that. I’m scared, I’m tired and I’m trying so hard to remain positive, but all I do is worry. Not only am I worried about everything to do with the actual surgery, I’m worried about losing everything my husband and I have worked so hard to have in our lives. I don’t know how we are going to financially juggle not only the expense of our regular bills with me not working for several months but also all the bills that will come along with this surgery. So I’m asking if you might be able to donate a little towards my GoFundMe so I can help ease my husband’s burden of trying to figure all this out on his own. I didn’t want to ask, I really didn’t, I feel defeated but I had a friend say to me don’t ask for yourself ask for your husband and that sat with me for a while. After thinking for a while I decided it was what I could do to help my family make it through this terrifying time while stuck in this hospital bed. I truly would be thankful for any help our family could get while I focus on fighting for my life. Sincerely your friend, Chris.”

There will also be a fundraising event, A Heart for Lela (Chris), at Heather’s Wine Nook on December 7th at 4pm. There will be a silent auction, raffle, 50/50 and bake bale. A dinner will be offered of sloppy joes, sides, and a dessert for $5 per plate.
