Chillicothe Public Library District Annexes LaPrairie Township

Library Referendum Results
The November 5, 2024 election ballot featured two questions posed to voters in both Peoria and Marshall counties. One question focused on minimally increasing the current operational tax rate, while the other related to the annexation of unserved areas in Marshall County.

The canvass results show that the tax increase question failed in both Peoria and Marshall County. And while the question of annexation passed in Peoria, it appeared to have failed in Marshall, that is until the results of the individual precincts came through. The granular data results showed that LaPrairie Township voters approved the Annexation, while the other three precincts – Steuben, Whitefield, and Saratoga did not.

The passage officially expands the Chillicothe Public Library District to now include LaPrairie Township, making it possible for all residents in LaPrairie Township to get their Chillicothe Public Library District library card today!

What will a library card provide LaPrairie Township residents?
Having a CPLD card provides access to the 35,000+ physical items available at the library, and to items held at 140+ other libraries throughout Central Illinois. With a CPLD library card, residents can download audiobooks, and eBooks, or stream music, TV, movies, and award-winning documentaries with Hoopla, Kanopy, Boundless, and Libby accounts.

With their CPLD library card, LaPrairie residents can now check out non-traditional items too, like board games, learning kits for STEM, and STEAM activities. A CPLD library card can even provide access to the internet through our Hotspot lending program.

Chillicothe Public Library District staff and Board of Trustees look forward to being of service to the residents of LaPrairie Township!
