Optimistically Speaking

Induction of new members from L-R: Neil Price, Optimist Member, with Rodney Davis and Nic Dossett. (Durwin Nigus was not present.)

It’s Spring! The trees are all budded out and the crocus, daffodils, and tulips are all in bloom—it’s a glorious time of year! To Optimists, spring means getting busy with fundraisers and working on projects.

In April at our special evening social meeting, we inducted three new Optimists into our club; Nic Dossett, Rodney Davis, and Durwin Nigus. These men are ready to get busy helping our youth and our community.

Congratulations to 3rd grader, Asher Roseboom who was awarded 3rd place in the poster contest at the state level. Asher received $50 in prize money.

This year the Optimists are partnering with the Picket Fence Foundation. We will be helping with some remodeling at the florists and have secured a $500 grant from Optimist’s International to help with expenses. We also will be having a bake sale on May 10th to help raise money for that project. The bake sale will be from 10am–2pm. Come get some scrumptious desserts to take to your Mother’s Day celebration when you pick up flowers and gifts at Picket Fence.

The date for our annual garage sale has been set for May 17th. The sale will be from  8am–4pm at the Casting Club. You may bring your items on May 16th at any time after 8am. Any items (clothes, toys, furniture, housewares, tools, etc.) in good, clean condition will be accepted. We get thousands of items donated, and there are NO PRICES at the sale, everything is for a donation!

Coming up…June is flag month, so watch for us selling our flags around town on June 13th & 14th. All monies from fundraiser events go to fund our three high school scholarships and projects for the youth and our community.

If you would like to be a part of helping our youth and your community, join us for a breakfast meeting at Grecian Gardens on the 1st & 3rd Saturdays of each month at 8am. We’d love to have you and tell you how you can get involved.

Until next time…Stay Optimistic!
