As part of the Peoria County Bison-tennial project, the City of Chillicothe is participating in the bison trek. The BISON SCULPTURE is located in front of City Hall and is designed and produced by Owens Design Group. Visit this link bisontrek.peoriacounty.gov for more information about the 40 other bison sculptures in Peoria County.

Bradley Street drainage construction project has begun. Bradley Street will be closed block by block during construction for the installation of a new storm sewer pipe to improve drainage. Once the storm sewer is installed, the road will be intermittently closed to complete paving and other work. The project is set to be completed before school starts. 

Congratulations to Chillicothe Police Officer David Buchanan for being awarded the 2024 Illinois Law Enforcement Medal of Honor for his bravery during a February 2024 shooting incident. After approaching a suspected stolen vehicle, Buchanan exchanged gunfire with a suspect, sustaining a gunshot wound to the hand while another bullet struck his vest. Honored in Springfield alongside 22 other officers, Buchanan was recognized for his courage, grit, and heroism.

At the June 9th City Council Meeting the Council approved:

  • A Special Use Permit for fence construction within a floodplain at 106 South Bay
  • Proclamation for June 11th to be Kevin Yates Day to celebrate his 25 years of service with the Chillicothe Park District
  • Four Sidewalk Program Applications
  • An expenditure of $10,009.50 payable to Fehr Graham for Cloverdale Project Engineering
  • The Non-MFT Sidewalk Bid to Merc Construction in the amount of $96,793.75

  • Run for the Health of It 5k race on July 12 from 6am-10:30am by Pearce Community Center
  • Chillicothe Days Carnival on June 18-June 21 at City Park by the Chamber 
  • Tom Harms Memorial Cruise In on June 28 from 9am-7pm by the VFW
  • Castin Relief’s 5th Annual Catfish Tournament on August 9 from 4:30am-5:30am at Cutright Park
  •  IVC Homecoming Parade on September 26 from 1:30pm-4pm on 2nd Street
  • 12 Live Entertainment Request dates by the American Legion
  • Referring to the City Attorney to draft an ordinance Amending the City Code Traffic Schedule to allow for Stop Signs on Benedict at Moffitt Street
  • An expenditure of $5,426.97 payable to Sam Leman for the purchase of a replacement transmission for the Chevy Tahoe Police Vehicle
  • Ordinance Amending Fence Regulations in the City Code
  • Collective Bargaining Labor Contract-Teamsters Local 627 representing the Public Works & Office Staff

  • Reimbursement - 907 Hushaw -Tree Pruning

City Council meetings are held on the 2nd and 4th Mondays of each month at 7pm at City Hall. The public is invited. The next Council meeting will be held June 23rd.
