The Chillicothe Voice

Optimistically Speaking

September is here, and the kids are all back in school. Soon, the leaves and the temperatures will be falling, and Mother Nature will show her colors.

The Optimists Club of Chillicothe celebrated 40 years with a picnic at Shore Acres Park. Our founder, Harry Crull, was at hand and was presented a bench dedicated in his and his late wife, Marian’s, honor. The bench was placed at CEC for all the youth to see and be reminded of Harry’s favorite saying: A GOOD REPUTATION WILL ALWAYS PRECEDE YOU, A BAD ONE WILL ALWAYS FOLLOW YOU.

In August, the Club was happy to help Picket Fence remodel their Ability Marketplace by scraping and painting. A bake sale was held to raise money for this project, and this effort will be met with a matching grant from Optimist International and given to the Picket Fence Foundation. Stop in and shop in this truly unique part of their business. Support your local businesses by shopping in Chillicothe.

The teachers receiving $50 checks for their classrooms this month are: Abbey Boyle, South School; Earl Capel, South School; and Laura Holmes, Mossville. The Optimists are glad to be able to help the teachers each month buy supplies for their rooms.

Watch for one of our delicious bake sales at the South School Open House on September 10th. Be sure and bring cash to take home some great desserts!

If you would like to be part of helping our youth and our community and would like to join the Optimist Club, we meet the first and third Saturdays of each month at Grecian Gardens for a breakfast meeting at 8am.

Until next month…Stay Optimistic!
