Chillicothe Circle of Service
Mossville Care and Share Program coordinator Stephanie Thompson (L) and secretary Rhonda Renner happily accept personal care products for their Care and Share Program from members Mary Baker and Diane Vojta (R). Not pictured is co-coordinator Jennifer Pillman.
Chillicothe Circle of Service members again showed their generosity to local students by contributing a trunkful of personal care items to CEC’s Kindness Closet and Mossville’s Care and Share Program. Included in the donations to the two schools were body wash, socks, shampoo, deodorant, ChapStick, toothpaste, and feminine hygiene products.
Gene Pratt spoke to our members about the Mossville Indian Mounds, many of which are located on Mossville Caterpillar property and some land just north of there. Unfortunately, history doesn’t tell us much about any of the Indian mounds in the state (e.g., Cahokia and Dixon) because there was no written language. We know leaders of the various Indian tribes were entombed in the mounds and actually layered one row on top of another. It’s believed Indians migrated north from Cahokia along what is now I-55 and I-155 to the Peoria area. At one time, there were more than 10,000 mounds in the state; now there are only about 500 left. There is a lot of Native American culture in this area. We thank Gene for a very informative presentation.
Nuts, nuts, nuts! We recently learned that Terri Lynn, supplier of our fundraising treats used to provide scholarships for IVC seniors, ceased operations this Spring, so we will not be selling nuts this Fall. We hope to find another quality supplier so we can sell again in 2026.
