Obituary – Rose Marie Wunder

Rose, 94, of Chillicothe Illinois, formerly Lacon, Illinois, died on September 17, 2025 at her residence. Born in Henry, Illinois on June 29, 1931 to the late James and Lillian (Morris) Wallace, she married Vernon E. Wunder on September 28, 1957, at the Immaculate Conception Church in Lacon. He survives.

Also surviving are son Jim (Susie) Wunder of Chillicothe, daughter Tammy Fennell of Chillicothe, sister Jeanne, Wallace of Chillicothe, sister-in-law Phyllis Strong of Lacon, five grandchildren (Tyler Wunder, (Jen), Mount Prospect, IL, Shayna Steele, (Patrick), Lacon, IL, Trisha Byrd, (Wyatt), Crystal Lake, IL, Zac Fennell, (Kaiti), Dunlap, IL, Traci Updyke, (Sean), Brimfield, IL), and 13 great grandchildren She was also preceded in death by brother Tom Wallace, son-in-law, Matthew Fennell, and brother-in-law Morris Strong.

Rose worked for Caterpillar for over 30 years as a secretary and administrative assistant. She was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish - Immaculate conception church and their Altar and Rosary Society

Rose’s life was centered around her family. She was always at the forefront of hosting all holiday gatherings and making sure her children, grandchildren, and later in life, great-grandchildren’s events were memorable. Her backyard Easter egg hunts were legendary. She especially was happiest when attending her children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events, cheering on the Bulldogs, Cougars, and Timberwolves. She also rooted for the Chicago Cubs and loved watching the Illinois and Bradley Basketball teams on television. Her competitive spirit was contagious to her entire family. When not traveling to sporting events, she enjoyed dining with their breakfast group and quiet evening dinners with husband Vern.

A Mass was held on September 22nd at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish - Immaculate Conception Church in Lacon with a visitation at the church. Burial immediately followed in the Saint Patrick Cemetery in Henry, Illinois.
