What’s Happening in Chillicothe...

Oct 30, 2025 11:36AM ● By the City of Chillicothe

This past month, the City Council finalized the Comprehensive Plan, developed in partnership with the Tri-County Regional Planning Commission. Over the past year, the process has included a dedicated committee, community meetings, interviews, surveys, and expert input. The completed plan captures our community’s shared vision for growth, infrastructure, and quality of life—serving as Chillicothe’s blueprint for the future.

The Bike Trail continues to expand. The Illinois Department of Transportation has selected Chillicothe’s Sycamore Street Shared Use Path project for the 2024 Local Project Funding program. Out of more than 1,900 applications, Chillicothe’s project was chosen based on data-driven criteria including community need, project readiness, and mobility impact. The state has committed up to $935,000 for the project, with funds to be obligated within two years.

The City of Chillicothe offers yard waste burning from October 1st through December 15th. Check the City’s website under the “Residents” menu, then “Burning Schedule” for full details. The Moffitt yard waste drop-off is an alternative to burning. In November, the hours are as follows: Monday 8am-10am & 3pm-5pm, Wednesday 10am-noon & 3 pm-5pm. Saturday 8am-1pm. November 26, 2025, is the last day to drop off yard waste.
