Chillicothe Park District: More Than Summer Fun – A Year-Round Hub for Community Life
When many people think of the Chillicothe Park District, they picture sunny days at Shore Acres Pool. While summer is a special season here, the Park District is far from a summertime operation. Throughout fall and winter, our nine parks, engaging programs, and various community spaces remain vibrant — offering opportunities for connection, creativity, and recreation for all ages throughout the year.
As autumn settles in, the Park District shifts seamlessly into a new season of activity. Coffee @ the Clubhouse, designed especially for older adults, continues to be a warm and welcoming gathering where seniors can socialize, enjoy treats, and experience live entertainment. It has quickly become one of our most consistent and well-loved monthly traditions.
Fall also brings the continued momentum of our Senior Getaway Trips, offered year-round. These excursions give older adults the chance to explore new destinations, enjoy cultural experiences, and share meaningful moments with friends long after summer has ended. Sign-ups are now open for our upcoming trip to see Hamilton in Chicago, complete with round-trip transportation on Peoria Charter Coach — a perfect opportunity for a memorable adventure.
Seniors can also enjoy cozy afternoons with our Senior Cinema Series, a relaxing movie day complete with great films, good company, and a welcoming environment.
Winter only expands the fun. Our annual Grinchmas Party, hosted in conjunction with the Chillicothe Parks Foundation, has grown into one of our community’s most beloved holiday traditions. With crafts, games, festive photo ops, and plenty of cheer, the event fills to capacity each year — a true reflection of how much local families cherish this magical celebration.
December also features our Holiday Puzzle Palooza, a lively team event that has become a favorite indoor activity for families and friend groups during the colder months.
In addition to special events, the Park District continues to broaden its program offerings for adults. Guests can unwind during sound bath meditations, stay active with yoga, or tap into their creativity with The Color Studio, a guided painting experience launching this season. Our popular line dancing classes remain a fun and energetic way for community members to move, laugh, and connect.
Youth programming is expanding as well. This winter, we’re introducing a brand-new K-Pop Demon Hunter Youth Dance. Get ready! Kids will dance, sing, and party the night away!
These offerings reflect the park district’s mission of providing quality recreational services in every season. While the pool may close for winter, the heartbeat of the Park District never slows down. Our mission extends far beyond summer recreation — we aim to create spaces and experiences that help people connect, learn, celebrate, and thrive all year long.
Whether you’re enjoying a winter event, joining a fall activity, or simply walking through one of our parks on a crisp afternoon, the Park District is here for you. We invite residents of all ages to explore what’s happening this season and discover the programs that make our community strong.
