Freedom Paws Celebrates Three New Service Dog Graduates

Feb 25, 2026 10:38AM ● By Brenda Twisdale, Navy Veteran/Graduate of the program

On January 17th, Freedom Paws Service Dogs Foundation proudly celebrated the graduation of three dedicated teams at a heartfelt ceremony held at VFW Post 2602 in Peoria Heights. Surrounded by family, friends, volunteers, and supporters, the event marked the culmination of months of intensive training, commitment, and partnership between handlers and their service dogs.

Pictured from left to right are Joe Quiles (U.S. Army), Adam Hazel (Firefighter), and Christian Hansen (U.S. Army). Two of the graduating teams call Illinois home, while one traveled from Maryland to complete the program and celebrate this milestone.

Each graduate represents a unique journey, but all share the same outcome: increased independence, confidence, and support through their highly trained service dogs. These dogs are now equipped to assist their handlers with daily tasks while providing life-changing companionship and stability.

Freedom Paws is honored to stand alongside our graduates as they move forward into this next chapter, and we extend our sincere gratitude to VFW Post 2602 for hosting this special celebration, as well as to everyone who helps make these life-changing placements possible.
