At the Heart of Chillicothe: A Year of Parks, People, & Possibility
Parks are more than green spaces—they are where memories are made, friendships begin, and community comes to life. Throughout Fiscal Year 2025, the Chillicothe Park District remained committed to creating places where residents of all ages can gather, play, and feel connected to the community they call home
Serving nearly 20,000 residents across Chillicothe and Medina Townships, the Park District cares for 10 parks and facilities spanning more than 200 acres. With just three full-time staff members, the District continues to deliver meaningful recreational experiences that reach thousands of families each year—proof that passion and purpose go a long way
This year, those connections were felt across the community. More than 22,000 visitors cooled off and made summer memories at Shore Acres Pool, while over 3,200 participants joined Park District programs. From community celebrations and fitness opportunities to rentals that marked life’s special moments, parks once again served as the backdrop for everyday joy
Significant improvements throughout the District reflected a focus on inclusion, safety, and the future. The completion of the Shore Acres “Play for All” Playground created a welcoming space designed for children of all abilities. Tippett Field renovations, trail resurfacing at Stone Water Park, infrastructure upgrades at Shore Acres Park, and the receipt of a donated property further strengthened local amenities. Planning also continued for future enhancements, including a Shore Acres Pool Master Plan and clubhouse restroom renovations—investments made with the next generation in mind
Strong stewardship ensured these improvements were made responsibly. During FY25, the Park District reported $3.67 million in revenue and $3.23 million in expenditures, demonstrating careful budgeting and thoughtful use of taxpayer dollars, grants, program fees, and donations. Compared to neighboring communities, Chillicothe continues to provide exceptional value while maintaining a competitive tax rate
Community support played a vital role as well. The Chillicothe Parks Foundation, established in 2023, helped advance major projects by contributing $40,000 to the Shore Acres Park OSLAD project and raising nearly $18,000 through general donations. Beloved events such as the Dive-In Movie, “Play for All” Party in the Park, Hills & Hollow 5K, and Grinchmas Party brought neighbors together and reminded us that parks are the heartbeat of a thriving community.
As the Park District looks ahead to 2026, its mission remains clear: to preserve, enhance, and grow spaces where everyone belongs—today and for years to come.
