What’s Happening in Chillicothe...

The question “When can I burn my landscape waste?” is often asked in Spring. Burning of leaves and other yard waste is allowed April 1–May 31 and October 1–December 15, Monday–Saturday from 10am to sunset. Burning is not allowed on Sundays, major holidays, or parade days, and wet leaves may never be burned. Fires must be attended at all times by someone age 15 or older and kept at least 20 feet from buildings. “Landscape waste” includes leaves, grass clippings, brush, branches, and other plant material.

An alternative to burning is using the Landscape Waste Drop-Off Site at Moffitt Park which opened March 18 and is available for Chillicothe residents only. The site is for landscape waste only, including twigs, sticks, and small branches (4 inches in diameter or less), grass clippings, flower and garden trimmings, hedge clippings, and leaves.

The City will hold its Annual Cemetery Cleanup April 13–17, 2026 (weather permitting) to help maintain and beautify the cemetery. During this time, all ground-level decorations and hanging baskets on shepherd’s hooks will be removed and disposed of to allow for mowing and trimming. Lot owners wishing to keep any vases, wreaths, or arrangements should remove them before April 13, 2026.
