What’s Happening in Chillicothe...

Apr 27, 2026 01:55PM ● By the City of Chillicothe
May marks the start of a new fiscal year at City Hall, with appointments to be made at the first City Council meeting. The month is busy with activities and celebrations as Mother’s Day, graduations, and Memorial Day plans are underway. Summer Camp Music Festival at Three Sisters Park will be taking place May 21–24 and will be drawing thousands of attendees over the holiday weekend. The Memorial Day Ceremony will be held at the Veterans Memorial triangle on Santa Fe Avenue at 11 am on Monday, May 25.

Golf carts/UTVs operated on City streets in Chillicothe must be registered. Applications are available at the Police Department. Inspections and registrations for golf carts and UTVs for the 2026 season begin May 1. For additional details, visit the Chillicothe Police Department website or follow their Facebook page for updates.

Yard Waste Burning lasts until May 31. Burning is allowed on Monday through Saturday between 10 am and sunset. It is NOT allowed on Sundays or holidays. An alternative to burning is to drop off the landscape materials at the Moffit Park Landscape Waste Drop-Off Site which is available for Chillicothe residents. Check out the city’s website for the schedule.

Chillicothe residents have a checkbox option on their water bills to “ROUND UP.” By checking this box, the difference between what is owed and what is sent in is set aside in the Shademakers account. The Shademakers committee uses these funds to beautify the parks, city street planters, and other public places by planting flowers, shrubs, and ornamental grasses.

Civic Awards: On March 23rd, on behalf of the City Council, Mayor Michael Hughes presented the Civic Achievement Award to Kim Corrington of the American Legion Post #9 and the Civic Volunteer Award to Brian Fislar. Congratulations to the award winners who make Chillicothe a great community!
