Lisa Jo Tyler

Lisa Jo Tyler passed away on June 9, 2026, at her home in Oregon City, OR. She was born in Peoria, Illinois on April 21, 1964, to Donald D. and Janet L. Thompson Tyler. She was proceeded in death by her parents. She is survived by her life partner, James Schmidt of Oregon City and her brother Scott (Shelly) Tyler of Lake Charles, LA, two stepsisters and brother, and two nieces and two nephews.

Lisa grew up in Chillicothe, IL enjoying softball, bowling, and performing clarinet and percussion in school bands. She graduated with honors from Illinois Valley Central High School in 1982. She attended Colorado State University and then Penn State University where she completed an MS degree with highest distinction in Landscape Architecture in 1990.

After college, Lisa worked at architectural firms in Pennsylvania for several years before moving to Oregon in 1998. She completed her career performing landscape project development and management for the Cities of Salem, OR and then Portland, OR at their respective parks, trails, and recreational areas until her retirement in 2020.

Lisa loved nature and wildlife and pursued hobbies including reading, sewing, quilting, crocheting, cross stitch, gardening, cooking, and canning. She was also a supporter of civic and natural resource organizations. Donations to a cancer charity of one’s choice are suggested.
