Chillicothe Fire Department Welcomes New Public Information Officer

Feb 26, 2025 09:50AM ● By Fire Chief Tom Shubert

The Chillicothe Fire Department is excited to introduce Tyler Millar as its new Public Information Officer (PIO). With decades of experience in TV and media production and firefighting, Millar is eager to enhance the department’s communication strategies. His primary goal is to strengthen the connection between the fire department and Chillicothe residents by consistently informing them about fire safety, emergency services, and essential updates.

As PIO, Millar will oversee the department’s communications strategy and manage public relations and media outreach. He will coordinate fire safety campaigns and be the primary contact for media inquiries. He is dedicated to building trust and transparency between the department and the community, focusing on fire prevention, emergency response, and the department’s full range of services. “I’ve always had a strong connection to this community, and I am incredibly honored to take on this role,” Millar said. “As a firefighter, I’ve seen firsthand how crucial effective communication is, and I am excited to use my background in media production to serve our community in a new capacity.”

Millar brings a wealth of experience to the role, having worked in TV and media production for over two decades. His background in TV and corporate industries has equipped him with strong public relations, crisis communication, and community outreach skills. Millar’s ability to craft clear, compelling messages will be key in raising awareness of fire safety and communicating the department’s vital work. Additionally, his experience as a firefighter gives him a practical understanding of the department’s operations and needs.

Outside of his professional life, Millar is a dedicated husband and father to five children: Cash, 11; Daisy, 9; Holliday, 7; June, 3; and Millie, 1. His family is his driving force, and he is incredibly passionate about ensuring safety and support for all families, particularly those with special needs. Millie, who has cerebral palsy, is non-verbal, and has epilepsy, has inspired Tyler to advocate for individuals with disabilities. He is committed to raising awareness, securing resources, and promoting inclusive education and safety initiatives within the fire department to serve the entire community better. “Being a father to five kids, including a child with cerebral palsy, keeps me on my toes and reminds me every day of how important it is to protect and care for our community,” Millar said. “I’m deeply grateful to my wife, Courtney, for her unwavering support. She is the heart of our family, and none of this would be possible without her strength and dedication.”

Millar already plans various community outreach programs, including fire safety education, school visits, and youth-focused initiatives. He is committed to raising awareness through multimedia content, such as videos, newsletters, and social media campaigns. Additionally, Millar looks forward to expanding partnerships with local schools, businesses, and civic organizations.

Millar encourages public involvement through volunteer opportunities, mentorship programs, and community events. “Our department is here to help everyone, and I want to ensure the community knows all the resources available to them,” he said.
