Meet the Candidates for Mayor

With the upcoming election for the City of Chillicothe’s Mayor, The Chillicothe Hometown Voice asked each candidate to summarize their intentions for the next four years. Here’s what they had to say:
Mayor Hughes:
Things I am proud of during my tenure as Mayor of Chillicothe and with the help of the Chillico-the City Council and the Staff of the City of Chillicothe...
- The rezoning of Chillicothe Island, which will stop any person or business from ever being able to change this piece of land from anything other than a wildlife refuge.
- The repair and replacement of the pump and well in the northern part of Chillicothe.
- All the street and alley repair and replacement materials.
- The update and completion of a new Comprehensive City Plan.
- The development of the 2024 Nikolausmarkt event in downtown Chillicothe.
- And many more projects...as well as my openness to the citizens of Chillicothe. I al-ways try to respond to phone calls, e-mails, questions, etc.
Things that I (we) are planning for the next four-year term...Repair and redirect the flooding wa-ters on Bradley Avenue and Truitt Avenue to a new detention pond to be created on land adja-cent to the Fire Department property off N. Bradley Avenue. We are looking at several other pro-jects, but that one will be taking precedence.
Tim White:
One area I’d like to improve is the ease at which businesses open in Chillicothe. I’d like to see a “check list” of all permits, regulations, and licensing if applicable that need to be met before a business can open. This would put the city and potential business owners on the same page knowing what is expected of each party. I’m for anything to make it easier to start and operate a business in our City.
I also would work on our ordinance complaint system to make it more closed-loop and documented. I would work on bringing more jobs to town. Whether elected or not, I have put into motion a subcommittee for a comprehensive plan to revitalize our City and Cutright Parks with more modern and visually appealing tables, benches, and lighting areas for families to get together. More to come on this as the year progresses.
If elected, I look forward to and would be extremely proud to serve Chillicothe as YOUR Mayor.
