Sanitary Wipes

Chillicothe Public Works has had issues the past several years with “flushable” wipes being placed into toilets. The packaging may state that these items are flushable, but they do not biodegrade at a very fast rate. This is causing sewer lines to back up into residential homes.

The City of Chillicothe offers a RESIDENTIAL SIDEWALK PROGRAM to help homeowners with the cost of installing or replacing residential sidewalks, curbs, and the sidewalk portion of driveways. The City will reimburse 80% of the cost, up to $2,000 per property (maximum of two properties per applicant).

Mary Elizabeth Hanes Ward’s story began in Jerseyville, Illinois, where she was born the oldest daughter of Mr. & Mrs. C. M. Hanes. A thoughtful and determined young woman, Mary graduated from Jersey Township High School and later attended the College of St. Teresa in Winona, Minnesota.

The First Lady of Kindergarten

Okay everyone, come sit close. I have a story to share, and it begins right here in Chillicothe more than eighty years ago. It is the tale of Mrs. Bette Weber Gibbs, the brave young teacher who opened our town’s very first kindergarten class at Pearce Grade School in 1941. For the next 43 years she guided little ones through their ABCs, their first friendships, and their first discoveries, milestones etched in our town’s memory and remembered still to this day.

Our most important pollinators, bees, love urban settings where there are short flight paths and a variety of different plants and flowers to sample. In fact, bees are more likely to thrive in your backyard than on acres of farmland devoted to single crops. By the way, there are five or six places in Chillicothe where you can buy Local Honey. You must try it. It is delicious!

Obituary – Ronald Creighton Coletrain

Ronald, aged 69, passed away May 21st peacefully at his home with his loving family right by his side after a year-long fight against Pancreatic Cancer. Born on May 4, 1956, in Charleston, South Carolina to Gloria and Perlie Coletrain. He grew up in Chillicothe, Illinois, with his only sister Tammy Coletrain (Callison). He graduated from IVC in 1974, then went on to continue a career in automotive manufacturing. Later, retiring from Mitsubishi Motors after 30+ years.
